Good Grief

Van Gogh's "Sorrowing Old Man (At Eternity's Gate) "What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose.  All that we love deeply becomes part of us." ~ Helen Keller I laughed today when I saw a bowl of M & M candy at the welcome table of a funeral.  The wonderful man that had passed away loved them.  My husband wanted to wear a bolo tie to the funeral because this man always used to wear them as he was a constant greeter at church & made everyone feel welcome every Sunday.  That made me smile too.  My dad discovered Toys Are Us back in the 90s and used to take my 5 year old son there to get 'whatever he wanted' from the Lego aisle.  We have tons of Legos, along with the Barney video of the month club he also enrolled in for my kids.  He's been gone 24 years but It still makes me laugh because it brought him so much joy. My even tempered uncle startled family members and Bronco fans alike because he used to get so intensely passionate at the Bronc

Woman of Your Word

Ryrie 🕮 How long does it take to start a habit?  The 21 days assumption is a myth, according to  experts .  Time management expert Laura Vanderkam says in a Mon-Fri schedule, Thursday is the best day to start a new habit- Mondays are too busy, Wednesdays are typically the longest work days, then by Thursdays the work week starts to slow down. You can reinforce the habit on Friday when work is slower, continue it through the weekend and be off to a good start. 🕮 British author Samuel Smiles says of habits: "Sow a thought, and you reap an act; sow an act and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny." I have a lot of habits I'm not proud of.  They may involve Flaming Hot Cheetos & watching Law & Order.  But I always want to be learning and teac

Tozer ☠ Ever not enjoy your job?  Think you're overqualified and underappreciated?   If you think you're irreplaceable and your boss doesn't realize it yet, c onsider this job post:  "Wanted: individual who has an exquisite palate for food and drink; able to detect even the slightest hint of poison  in an array of foods and drinks.  Benefits include being a close  trusted advisor.  Must be responsible and  loyal to death to King Artaxerxes.  Other skills - able to pour  a good  glass of  wine.  Also, probably single." ☠ Nehemiah was a cupbearer to the king.  That means he was responsible for pouring and testing the king's wine for poison.  I mean, I've had some good bosses but there's not a boss in the world that I am willing to do that for.   Except one. "Whatever you do, do your wor

Irreplaceable? I Think So!

Google images "We can't help everyone, but everyone can help someone."   ~ Ronald Reagan 🔥 Funny how things change in a moment's notice.  I sit here this morning on my back deck smelling smoke from the out of control wildfire just miles from us, wondering if it's the last time for a while I will be able to enjoy this deck time.  We have our cars packed and are ready to go if we are pre-evacuated.   photo taken from my window of wildfire When this fire started the day before yesterday, it was the third one around Denver.  Since then two more have come up; one has been put out.   🔥 So how do we prepare for something like this? We have been preparing physically for the last year because our mountain has been in high fire danger.  But mentally, as I walk around my house looking at "stuff", it brings clarity - we just got our dog out first.    It's a good glimpse into the future.  The "stuff" is nice and all, but it really doesn't matter
