"God loves each of us as if there's only
one of us." ~ Augustine
one of us." ~ Augustine
🎵What's the one song that is your go-to, feel good, get you out of the dumps song when you're having a bad day? The one that speaks to your soul, or had a profound effect on you during an especially challenging time in your life?
Did you know one of the songs most dementia patients remember from their childhood is "Jesus Loves Me". It's an emotional anchor for them spiritually, and songs like these provide comfort, reduce anxiety and promote social interaction, providing a lot of therapeutic value, according to the National Institute of Health.
🎵This simple hymn was written to comfort a dying child, and it has comforted countless people of all ages to this day. Think about its' content, and, though simplistic, how submerged in Scripture it is:
🎵 "Jesus loves me"-
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have
everlasting life." John 3:16
"But God shows His love for us, that while we were yet sinners,
Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
🎵 "this I know"-
For we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us." 1 Jn 4:16a
"By this we know love, that He laid down His life for us, and we ought
to lay down our lives for our brothers." 1 John 3:16
🎵 "for the Bible tells me so"-
"The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules
endures forever." Psalm 119:160
"Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth." John 17:17
🎵 "Little ones to Him belong":
"But Jesus called to them, saying, let the children come to Me and do not hinder
them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever
does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." Luke 18:16-17
"Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord; the fruit of the womb,
a reward." Psalm 127:3
🎵 "They are weak, but He is strong":
"But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is
made perfect in weakness." 2 Corinthians 12:9
"I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
🎵 When life hammers us down or someone we care for, sing the simple song and reflect on the power behind it. This is the One who loves us-
The God of Creation, of the Universe, the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the One who is the same yesterday, today and forever, who created the heavens and the earth, who sits enthroned on high, who is infinite, all-powerful, all-knowing, who died for us so we can spend eternity with Him- this is who wants to lavish His love on us.
🎵 Yes, Jesus loves me.
✙ Dear Heavenly Father, we can't fathom the love You have for us because we only understand human love, and You are beyond our understanding. Open our eyes, ears and hearts to remember how powerful this Love is, that we were redeemed with a precious price, and that Your Love is available to us through Your Spirit. Help us to show others Your all-powerful Love. Amen.
I remember my grandma singing that song to me when I was a little kid. Great blog, I love how you broke it down.
ReplyDeleteI love this song too! I remember learning it in summer Bible camp at the Baptist church on 92nd. Thanks Ted <3
