Oh The Places You'll Go!

"Congratulations!  Today is your day!
You're off to great places!
You're off and away!
~ Oh The Places You'll Go by Dr. Suess

It's that time of year - hundreds of thousands are graduating from preschool through college and Dr. Seuss wrote a primary book that applies to each one of these levels - it's really quite genius.

🎓 Touching on some of the conceptual highlights, as always we sift them through God's Word...

🎓 "You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes" -

"So prepare your minds for actions and exercise self-control.  Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world."
1 Pet 1:13

🎓 "You can steer yourself any direction you choose"; avoid the 'not so good street'.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own
understanding.  Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you
which path to take." Prov 3:5-6

🎓 When you "head straight out of town", you're told to "go right along" and you'll start "happening".  You'll join the "high-fliers who soar to great heights"

"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God
transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.
Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which
is good and pleasing and perfect." Rom 12:1-2

🎓 Sometimes you "soar to high heights",  be "the best of the best" and "top all the rest".

"For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength." Phil 4:13

🎓  Sometimes, though, when you're not at the top, you'll get in a "great slump" because of the "bang-ups and hang-ups" and have to "unslump" yourself. "Or you get to a place where the streets are not marked" and you have to make choices.

"Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way,
consider it an opportunity for great joy.  For you know that when your faith
is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.  So let it grow, for when
your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete,
needing nothing." James 1:2-4

🎓 You get confused and go down "weirdest wild spaces" or to the "Waiting Place". But you'll want to escape to where "boom bands are playing".

"God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation.
Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised
to those who love Him" James 1:12

🎓 "There is fun to be done",  some will lead to being "the winningness winner of all".

"Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." Ps 37:4

🎓 But sometimes you "play the lonely game", and "meet things that scare you right out of your pants".  But on you go even when "the Hakken-Kraks howl".

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power,
love and self-discipline." 2 Tim 1:7

🎓 And "you'll get mixed up with many strange birds" so be careful.  Don't "mix up your right foot with your left".

"Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of
fools suffers harm." Prov 13:20

🎓 "Your mountain is waiting, go get on your way." You will move mountains.

"I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed,
you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it would move."
Matt 17:20

🎓 "Today is your day!"

"This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Ps 118:24

✙ Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for the graduates in our lives, celebrations and fresh starts.  You are our Heavenly Father who gives us good things, and we only need to ask You.  Thank You for the joy this brings; help us to dedicate our paths to You as we seek You for guidance in all things.  Amen.

How to Fight Back the Darkness

Crosswalk image Nothing makes Satan weak in the knees more than when we are on our knees."   ~ Skip Heitzig, Pastor Death.  Killing.  Violence.  What do we do with such heavy hearts in such a dark time? With the knot in our throats and the pit in our stomachs that are weighing on our souls?  When we look around us, nothing on this broken earth can fill our void of sadness and despair.   So we look up to the One who created all things and who alone has the power to bring light and help: "I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.   What does help look like?  When does it come?  How much will we get?  Anger, confusion, bitterness, hostility, helplessness and fear overcome us in different ways and at different times.  We want reasons- we ask, "Why, Lord, why?" We instinctively want a reckoning- someone to pay for the injustice that has happened....

Christmas in July

Google image "I will honor Christmas in my heart and try  to keep it all year." ~ Scrooge, A Christmas Carol 🌞Alright, alright - I hear you.  Please don't talk about Christmas while you are enjoying summer.  (But someone needs to hear this - there are only 157 days left.)  And you know what comes out  first- the school supplies, then one day later the autumn decor.  Then three days after that is Christmas everything.  And my happy meter spikes:)  I can already smell the pumpkin spice latte.☕ Now some may think I'm trying to throw shade on the whole summer experience. 😎 And you would be right.  I only endure summer because fall is just around the corner, and I am finally able to celebrate this time of year appropriately, without a start to school.   I will admit I love the poppies that are growing in my yard.  And of course the baby deer.  And the garden tomatoes and peaches.  OK, summer does have some redeemi...

Our Anthem

Google image " and this be our motto,  in God is our trust, " ~ "The Star-Spangled Banner, Francis Scott Key   I wake up this morning, shake out my creaky bones, and sit on the patio with a cup of coffee wondering if I am going to catch a glance of the baby deer.  I open my Bible, listen to the birds and breathe in the fresh air.  Probably going to have a hot dog later - a cheese-filled hot dog (a glorious thing I just discovered). There is no one to tell me when to get up, I don't have to hide my Bible, I don't hear any bombing in the distance.  My coffee is readily available, and I can leisurely sip it on my patio for as long as I want today.  It's Independence Day.    Thank you, patriots and their families.  Thank you for making this peaceful morning free of tyranny, bondage, fear and oppression.  Not all places in this world can say that. So many have been inspired by the courage displayed by those who fought for the freedoms ...
