Remember that time we ...?
I will always think of you when I see...
This reminds me of that time we ...
I can't believe you remember...
I recall you were the one that ...

Ah, memories.  Good, bad, life giving, life threatening, even life endangering.  There's no greater feeling than seeing an old friend, someone we shared life with at one time or another, or still do.  They know us for us - in weakness and strength,  sound mind and sound body or unsound mind and frail body.  

There is a niche in time carved out that we shared together, where we put our imprint on something somewhere.  The understanding doesn't even have to be uttered but it is because it brings back the emotion of the experience and resolidifies our relationship.

Acceptance is realized and appreciated.  No one can take away that shared survival.




❔Who is our best old friend?
"There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command."  John 15:13-14



 ❔Who is always overjoyed to see and hear from us?  
"See how very much our Father loves us, for He calls us His children, 
and that is what we are!"  1 John 3:1

"For the Lord your God is living among you.  He is a 
mighty Savior.  He will take delight in you with gladness.
With His love, He will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs."  Zephaniah 3:17



 ❔Who loves us regardless?
"I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love.
With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself."  Jeremiah 31:3

"How precious is Your unfailing love, O God!  All humanity finds
shelter in the shadow of Your wings."  Psalms 36:7



❔Who understands us?
"O Lord, You have examined my heart and know everything about me.  
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I'm far away.  
You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.
You know everything I do.  You know what I am going to say
even before I say it, Lord." Psalms 139:1-5
 

❔Who's the one that accepts who we are, always forgiving us our wrong-doings towards them?
"But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins 
and to cleanse us from all wickedness." 1 John 1:9

"I-yes, I alone - will blot out your sins for My own sake
and I will never think of them again." Isaiah 43:25



When we enjoy the relationship of a good old friend, it fills our bucket.  (If you aren't sure about that reference, here is a great book to read, especially if you have children or grandchildren).  When we reminisce about our relationship, our heart starts refilling with gratitude.  

That's what our relationship with God should be like- filled with joyful memories of Him loving us, providing for our needs, giving us His goodness, celebrating with us, mourning with us, understanding and accepting us for who we are, but always, always wanting the best for us.


Let's remember who our best old Friend is with grateful hearts, but talk to Him every day and make new memories.
 
✙Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us friends, so we can get a glimpse of what it means to call You friend.  You show us unconditional acceptance and love, and only want what's best for us always.  Help us to be that kind of friend to someone else, and to recognize it when we need one.  Please help us to cherish our friendship with You every day.  Amen.

Knocking on Heaven's Door

  "Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal." ~ Troy Ramey, artist My mom knocked on heaven's door this week, and was let in.  She had lived 94 years on this earth- through the Great Depression, tragedy, and a host of health issues- but plodded on with feistiness and a sense of humor. My mourning wasn't the only woe being experienced this week- miscarriages, mental illness, broken family relationships, fear of uncertainty - all woes this broken world has handed out to people I love.  And the prince of this world loves to throw them at us relentlessly.  Lord, how do we endure? How do we fight back the tendency to grow tired of it and let it rob us of our  joy? We ask God to give us the fruit of self-control and guard our minds.    "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things."...

The Power of 4

"Mathematics is the language with which  God  has  ruled the universe." ~ Galileo . Go back with me to a quick math lesson recall from Geometry (stay with me, it's short I promise).    Straight logic, right?  Let's apply one of the principles our Almighty God, the great Mathematician who designed numbers and the universe and our minds, created.   (a) - He knew we would need advice, help and support on this earth, in this broken life. (b) -  He gave us His Holy Scriptures, His Word, that miraculously survived over the years, to guide us. (c) -   He gave us the Holy Spirit as our "advocate", to help us understand His Word. So, therefore, our support, guidance and help comes by way of the Holy Spirit guiding us as we read the Bible- the holy, inspired Word of God.  Isn't math awesome?
